Apcupsd and Netgate 8200Max

Hi team
I’ve recently upgraded my pfSense appliance with a Netgate 8200MAX and purchased an APC UPS model SRT1500RMXLI-NC (this has the APC “Network Management Card 3” added to the unit)

I’ve connected the APC provided USB cable to the Netgate 8200MAX and this is showing as connected. Running a “dmesg | grep usb” command on the pfSense appliance shows the below

usbus0 on xhci0
usbus0: 5.0Gbps Super Speed USB v3.0
ugen0.1: <Intel XHCI root HUB> at usbus0
uhub0 on usbus0
uhub0: <Intel XHCI root HUB, class 9/0, rev 3.00/1.00, addr 1> on usbus0
ugen0.2: <American Power Conversion NMC3 CDC> at usbus0
umodem0: <CDC> on usbus0

I’m having issues with the apcupsd in pfSense connecting to the unit.

  • UPS name is defined
  • UPS cable = “usb”
  • UPS type = “usb”
  • Device is blank
  • Other settings are default

Network Information Server

  • Net Server is On
  • NIS IP address is 0.0.0.0
  • NIS Port is 3551

UPS Sharing Config.

  • UPS Class = Standalone
  • UPS mode = Disdable

The status is showing as “Unknown COMMLOST”

Any ideas where I’m going wrong with this would be greatly appreciated. The apcupsd package documentation in Netgate isn’t great so I’m hoping the awesome Lawrence community could assist me with this.

I’ve ran an nmap on the IP address defined for the APC NMC3 card and port 3551 (TCP and UDP) is blocked
