I need a solution to record audio only in locker rooms in compliance with the new state law.
I was planning to use the AI Theta Hub paired with the AI Theta Audio. Is it necessary to enable the video portion as well, or can I record audio only?
My goal is to maximize retention, ideally 18–24 months of audio, so I’d like to avoid recording video to prevent unnecessary storage usage.
Lens cap glued to the camera should result is a single frame being told to repeat until the next I frame goes by, should be very small files. Also set resolution for the smallest size possible, 240xXXX would be nice if you can get a networked camera to go that low. Being a locker room, I’d make sure that the lens cap is glued in place. If the camera has a screw on lens (C or CS mount), glue a cap into the mount so even if the cap is removed, no clear image can be produced. Stream the files back to an NVR as h.265.
If the law says microphone only, then you might need to run something like a Dante system with microphones in each area, and then use Dante DVS to bring in all the channels and figure out how to record and store them. This won’t be cheap, looking at $220+ for the installer type 2 channel Dante devices. And this will be much higher quality than you need, it’s uncompressed audio at 48K or higher sample rate, and I think 32bit float depth (need to check the last part).
It’s so nice to pass laws and not have a working solution as an example.
I appreciate the reply. I guess I’ve been misinformed. We only have to keep 6 months of audio.
I spoke to Ubiquiti, and they said we have to use the video and audio portion. We’ll most likely order an Ai Theta to test. Install a camera at the entrance of the locker room and use the audio extension cable to mount the microphone inside.
system that discreetly secures any space while maintaining a warm and inviting atmosphere.
How dystopian, warm and inviting while we monitor your life. I’d still glue something over the lens to “permanently” prevent video in the locker rooms.
I’m also not sure I would try to hide a recorder, big ugly camera thing may cause people to be more polite to each other.
The camera will be mounted 12-14 feet above the entrance outside the locker room with the microphone inside. There is no need to hide any of it. We have to post signs about the recorder. The law states schools must post a “conspicuous” sign in each affected room notifying individuals of the presence of the audio recording device.
Before you know it there will be microphones in restrooms. More and more our privacy is being taken away from us. Can’t go anywhere without some sort of eye or ear on you. what a joke.
Some schools already have them in restrooms. They also have body heat sensors that can tell you if more than one person is in a stall or there is a large gathering.
I don’t take sides on the issue. But one could argue that if kids are forced to be at school for 6+ hours and have to use the locker room, the school has the responsibility to provide protection.
Also, the parents keep requesting more and more camera surveillance, so I expected more surveillance.
