A big thanks to Tom and his Utube!

Hi and thanks for adding me

I just want to give Tom a massive thanks for his utube webinars. Though some of this deep dive linux stuff is over my head a bit together with Tom and a bit of help from Perplexity Pro I have managed to rebuild an old FreeNAS sever (recommissioned with TrueNAS CE) and built from scratch a brand new primary NVME TN server. Also got going now with Proxmox on a faster machine and recently am now backing up that to TN via Toms fantastic utube on PBS containers on TN shared last month.

My question for Tom is has he come across the recently announced Proxmox <> TrueNAS “app”? that runs (I believe) on TN and the team there have just officially approved (via an API agreement). I gather this allows ZFS shares that actually reside on a TN server right within Proxmox. Not real sure of the details of how but I can envisiage why this might be so powerful. Could Tom perhaps do a vid on this… what it is.. how it differs from backup (say to a TN server) , why it is so powerful and how we might set it all up? And put it to use… Thanks once again and really appreciate all the help with my homelab.

Thanks and I will be looking into it once it matures.

That’s one of the most important things I like about Tom - he’s not trying to be the first with big news of the latest thing. He’s trying to be the most well-thought out and thorough as soon as something is truly ready for prime time in a business environment. You can always rely that if Tom is talking about it - it’s pretty much good to go and no big surprises await you in bugs or in the subject being just a trial run thing that might get pulled out of production.
