I’m still fairly new to selfhosting, but I’m beginning to suspect I’m really bad at it. .I’ve been running pfsense for a while with a couple of hiccups. I recently bought a storage server I’m setting up with TrueNAS and wanted to get all my pfsense settings correct for that. So I started by working through the HAProxy/Let’s Encrypt video. I ran into problems, so I switched to other tasks, intending to come back to it after more research. Then I started to notice a pattern.
Working through the HAProxy video, when I get to the host overrides in the DNS Resolver, none are showing up.
Working through the video to setup VLANs, when I get to the firewall rules, my VLAN isn’t there.
Then when working through the Tailscale setup, I get to the part where we look at Firewall/NAT/Outbound and Tailscale isn’t in the Mappings. In fact, there’s nothing in the mappings.
Also, I don’t know if this is relevant,: I have DDNS setup through Cloudflare and the IP address Cloudflare shows matches what’s in pfsense, but I can’t ping my domain or the IP address.
I’m obviously doing something wrong and have made a serious mistake, missing an important setting at a basic level. I’ve gone back through all the videos at least three times, but I’m not seeing what’s causing the problem. Maybe it’s DNS, DNS or DNS? Any help would be appreciated.
