Pub;ic static IP

Hello, I am new to Pfsense Firewall. May I ask, if is it really necessary to have 2 public static IP? One is for WAN and the other for LAN?

Thank you.

The WAN is usually dynamically assigned by your ISP. Unless you paid extra for a static. I’ve had no issues with the defaults from the setup process.

The LAN is your internal network. There you would need to set a static IP. Usually it would look like “192.168.x.1”.

You need 1 WAN public IP (static or dynamic), which is provided by your ISP. Most ISPs issue dynamic IP addresses via DHCP.

The LAN side IP is private, but does need to be static to allow you to connect to the web GUI or SSH.
