No boot on ecrypted drive - experts call!

I hope all are well and healthy!

I run Ubuntu 16.04 on my laptop and it lost the ability to boot.

Somehow I probably damaged the boot sector (likely incorrect use of ‘dd’ :/, why don’t we have a time machine to turn the clock back:/ ). The problem is my hard drive is encrypted (so after power on, I get a password prompt, enter passphrase, and then the Welcome screen comes up and hangs forever).

Anybody has expert advice and preferably personal experience in this situation =>
a) is it possible to fix?
b) if yes how ?

I suspect other distro would have similar steps in a similar situation, so hoping for talent from this group

Thanks in advance.

I have never tried to recover an encrypted boot drive.

It was really badly messed up, so RIP :frowning:
