How much legacy support do modern systems support legacy protocols? (thought question)

I was reading though the DHCP options on Wikipedia and it got me thinking. Do modern devices actually support some of the stuff from the 80’s and early 90’s? There are a lot of legacy options and I am curious if any devices would actually use any of the older options. I assume all modern devices just ignore the stuff that is not reliant to them but I wonder if unexpected behavior could be unlocked by pushing options that are never used. I’m just imagining some old code suddenly jumping to life.

I am also curious if modern devices would work with bootp. It is very similar to dhcp so modern devices might still support it for legacy reasons. I might try spinning up a bootp server to see what happens.

Just a though I had while eating lunch
